Green Door will work with you to first establish a theme (Victorian, Modern European, Japanese Traditional, your own custom design, an eclectic design, etc.).
From there, you’ll decide what flooring you’ll want, what fixtures will best enhance your remodel, and what wall patterns and colors to use. These will include, of course, bathtub/showers, sinks and vanities, toilets, and so forth. But we will also give extra consideration to lighting and ventilation matters, since these can be critical to the enjoyment and practicality of your new bath. For instance, if you’re looking in the mirror and all the lights are behind you, your face will be in a shadow and it will be very difficult for a woman to apply makeup, or for a man to shave. Green Door will design a lighting solution that makes it easy for you to use your mirrors.
Ventilation reduces moisture and invites fresh air into the bath. Since this area is the most humid and moist in the home, a proper ventilation system is critical. There are several reasons for this, but two of the most important are the buildup of bacteria and fungus, and the structural damage that can come from unchecked moisture. A good ventilation design will slow down the growth of bacteria and mold (as compared to poorly designed or non-existent ventilation systems). This yields an immediate health benefit, plus it reduces the rate of buildup of mold on wall surfaces, making cleaning easier. In addition, it reduces the possibility of structural damage to subsurface materials and structural supports, which can be very costly. So our designers always recognize the destructive potential of moisture and will work to prevent problems associated with moisture buildup.
Kitchen Fixtures
Kitchen appliances and fixtures – such as sinks and faucets, dishwashers, refrigerators and stoves – will complement or clash with the other features of your kitchen. However, most such fixtures being selected nowadays are white, or black, or metallic silver, so they fit into just about any color scheme. We will work with you to arrive at the best combination of colors to give your kitchen the look that you want.
There are also the smaller fixtures to consider. In addition to having a faucet at your kitchen sink, you might want to incorporate a vegetable sprayer and a soap dispenser for washing hands. Or you might want the sprayer incorporated into the faucet itself, called a “pull-down spout”, which is a detachable spout attached to a flexible hose. Pot fillers are the latest convenience. These are long-necked, multi-jointed extendable faucets that are mounted into the backsplash area behind a range. They can reach a pot over any burner so that you have the convenience of filling the pot while it rests on the burner, rather than having to fill the pot in the sink and carry it to the range. Yet another amenity is the water filtration system, which has a separate spigot for purified water. You can have any of these added features that you feel would enhance your quality of life well enough to justify the expense.
